Great to work with, Paul kept me updated throughout the entire process and they were able to recover all of our data from a failed RAID array on our NAS. They worked with us every step of they way without being patronizing like a lot of tech places tend to be.

Though a broken external hard drive is a horrible thing to happen, the team (especially Paul) at Data Recovery group made it the most positive experience. They were exceptional fast and responsive, and recovered data that I was sure was gone forever. Compared to the big box stores, I believe I wound up paying less and had my files back in 2 days vs. the 4 to 8 weeks I was quoted from the other guys. I hope I never encounter a broken hard drive situation again, but if lightning strikes twice I know who to call right away!

I am extremely happy with the service I received with Data Recovery Group. My laptop dropped from just a foot high and wouldn't turn on completely. It just kept saying "repairing". I called Asus and they recommended I have my data backed up before attempting to fix anything. I was very fearful of losing my children's pictures (foolishly not backed up) and I wouldn't trust just any company to help me out. After chatting with Paul I felt reassured I had called the right place with the best ability to help me out. My hard drive was damaged and they were successful in recovering most of my pictures which I am beyond thankful for! Paul has great communication skills and kept in contact with me throughout the process and helped me to copy my pictures from my new external hard drive he made me onto my new computer. He took the time to educate me on how to keep my pictures regularly backed up going forward. If you have anything very important to you I say don't take a chance going anywhere else!!

We built a cleanroom in London, Ontario and dedicated our careers to bringing data back from the dead.

In 2009, Paul founded Data Recovery Group out of a simple conviction: people and businesses should never lose irreplaceable data because they could not access a world-class recovery lab. At the time, most professional data recovery labs were concentrated in a handful of major cities, leaving millions of Canadians and Americans without reliable options. Drives were being sent overseas, mishandled, or declared unrecoverable by undertrained technicians working without the right equipment.

Paul set out to change that. He invested in building a Tier 3 ISO Class 100 cleanroom in London, Ontario, a controlled environment where fewer than 100 airborne particles exist per cubic foot. He recruited and trained engineers with deep specializations across every storage technology: spinning hard drives, RAID arrays, solid-state drives, and flash media. He established strict security protocols, including staff NDAs, PIPEDA compliance, and chain-of-custody documentation for forensic cases.

Over 17 years later, Data Recovery Group has recovered data from more than 10,000 storage devices. Cleanroom diagnosis is free; RAID, NAS and server cases are $450 CAD per drive to assess, credited in full. We maintain a 96% success rate, a perfect 5.0-star Google rating, and serve clients from coast to coast across Canada and the United States. Every case that enters our lab receives the same precision, the same cleanroom environment, and the same dedication. Whether it is a student's thesis on a corrupted USB drive or a corporation's RAID array containing years of financial records.

We offer free prepaid UPS shipping to our lab, fully insured in transit, because location should never be a barrier to getting your data back. Our engineers respond to emergency calls within 15 to 20 minutes, real experts, never a bot, never a call center. When your data matters, Data Recovery Group is the lab you trust.

ISO Class 100, The Gold Standard

Our Tier 3 cleanroom is one of the most controlled data recovery environments in Canada. Here is what that means for your data.

What ISO Class 100 Means

ISO Class 100 (also known as ISO 5 under modern standards) means the air inside our cleanroom contains fewer than 100 particles per cubic foot of air that are 0.5 microns or larger. To put that in perspective, a typical office contains between 500,000 and 1,000,000 particles per cubic foot. Our lab is roughly 10,000 times cleaner than the room you are sitting in right now.

This level of cleanliness is the same standard used in semiconductor fabrication and surgical operating rooms. For data recovery, it is not optional. It is essential. The read/write heads inside a hard drive fly just 3 nanometers above the spinning platter surface. A single particle of dust landing on an exposed platter can scratch the magnetic coating and permanently destroy the data stored beneath it.

Why Tier 3 Classification Matters

Our cleanroom is classified as Tier 3, which means it features redundant airflow systems, HEPA filtration, positive pressure environments, and full environmental monitoring. Temperature, humidity, and electrostatic discharge are controlled at every stage of the recovery process. This is not a laminar flow hood placed on a desk. It is a purpose-built, full-room cleanroom designed for precision data recovery work.

Every device that enters our lab, whether a single consumer hard drive or a multi-drive enterprise RAID array, is processed inside this environment by engineers wearing full cleanroom protective equipment. Cleanroom diagnosis is free on single-device cases. RAID, NAS and server cases are $450 CAD per drive, credited in full toward the recovery.

Engineers Who Specialize in the Impossible

Every member of our team is trained specifically for data recovery, not general IT, not desktop repair. This is all we do, and we have been doing it for over 17 years.

NDA-Protected Engineers

Every engineer who handles your device has signed a comprehensive non-disclosure agreement. Your data is treated as confidential from the moment it arrives at our lab until we confirm you have received it back and we have deleted all copies from our systems. We handle data for law firms, hospitals, government agencies, and corporations with the same level of discretion.

Security Protocols

Our facility operates under strict physical and digital security measures. Access to the cleanroom is restricted to authorized personnel only. We maintain full chain-of-custody documentation for forensic cases, PIPEDA compliance for Canadian privacy law, and secure data deletion procedures upon completion. Every step of the process is logged and tracked.

Years of Specialized Training

Data recovery is not something you learn from a manual. Our engineers have years of hands-on training with every type of storage device, from legacy IDE hard drives to the latest M.2 NVMe SSDs. They understand firmware architectures, RAID parity calculations, NAND flash translation layers, and the physical mechanics of platter-based drives at a level that most IT professionals never encounter.

Why Clients Trust Data Recovery Group

Our credentials are not marketing claims. They are measurable standards that directly affect the quality and security of your data recovery.

Everything you need to decide, on one screen

You are probably holding a drive with something on it you cannot replace. Here is every answer, so the only thing left to do is pick up the phone.

What will it cost? $2,500 CAD mechanical · $1,500 CAD flash and SSD

Fixed, not an estimate. Includes the donor drive, your data back on a new drive, and UPS Express shipping. RAID, NAS and server: $450 CAD per drive to assess, credited in full. Full price list →

Will I actually get it back? 96% of the time, yes

And on qualifying cases, if we cannot recover your data the recovery fee is refunded in full. Clicking, dropped, won't spin, not detected: all covered.

How long will it take? 48 hours to 3 weeks

You get a specific timeline with your assessment results, before you approve anything. Cannot wait? Emergency service is +$500 CAD and keeps your case in production around the clock. Emergency service →

What do I do right now? Power it off. Then call.

Every extra minute a failing drive spends powered on can turn a recoverable case into an unrecoverable one. Unplug it and pick up the phone.

What not to do, starting now

  • Do not power it on again. Every spin-up of a failing drive does more damage.
  • Do not put it in the freezer. That myth has cost people their data.
  • Do not open it. One dust particle on an open platter ends the recovery.
  • Do not run recovery software on a failing drive. It writes to the disk you are trying to save.
  • Do not follow a YouTube fix, and do not let a computer shop try first. A failed attempt makes our job harder and usually voids the guarantee.

What to do instead

Unplug the device and leave it alone.

Call 1-888-749-3786. An engineer answers, 24/7.

In 15 minutes you will know whether your case is likely recoverable, what it costs, and whether it qualifies for No Data, No Charge.

We email a free UPS Express label. Insured, next-day, from any province or territory, and it costs you nothing.

Nothing is charged until you approve the price.

No Data, No Charge: which cases qualify

Clicking drives, dropped drives, drives that won't spin, drives that aren't detected: all covered. Most of what comes through our lab is. A few categories are quoted case-by-case instead, because the work is harder to guarantee: fire damage, previously-opened drives, encrypted drives, forensic cases, phones, and a short list of end-of-life models. We'll tell you which category you're in on the first call, before you ship anything, before you pay anything. Full list →
